The Story, read me first
Roughly 7 months ago, I walked into a strong spiritual experience. I was just getting over a divorce…feeling sorry for myself and I was watching a movie. The movie was”Dead Man Walking”…I had seen this movie before, so I was only half involved. However…at the final scene of the movie….I was struck. I was in tears and felt the holy spirit immediately lead me to “do” something. I went online, found a death row inmate named James Andrews and decided to write him. I started a pen pal journey with a man I had never met.
My first letter was very basic…a simple introduction ”Hi I’m Rory” and uncomfortable conclusion “hope you’re doing okay.” He’s on death row…how okay is he? I had thought that by writing this man, I was serving God and shinning a little light in a very dark place…in other words doing my duty as a Christian…but how wrong I was.
What came back to me was a complete surprise. Brother James and I have been writing each other since January of this year. I have over two dozen letters and have kept every one of them. Brother James has greatly influenced my faith…and in my opinion, has helped me 10 times more than I have helped him.
The mission of this website, is to get other sisters and brothers in Christ to reach out to some of these inmates. Right now, There are two others that Brother James has suggested would like to be involved and whom are spiritually fit…since he recommends them, i feel led to do the same.
So what now? Well…that’s up to you. All I can share is my experience. When I was in a very dark place in my life…God connected me with another brother in Christ who was in his own darkness. Together we have formed a bond thicker than blood. My life has completely changed since that first letter I wrote…
On this site, I will include excerpts from Brother James letters…as well as information on how to get in contact with Brother James and his fellow inmates. Also, there will be a brief description on how to conduct yourself in your writing.
